Jody Bertness is the Food Service Director and head cook at Maplewood Academy, which also happens to be where she discovered her love of cooking. She attended Maplewood Academy from 1987–89, and this school is where she also enjoyed gymnastics, choraliers, and photography. Jody attended several different colleges throughout the years while trying to figure out what suited her best, and, finally, at the age of 43, she graduated from Mankato State University with a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and did her dietetic internship in Kettering, Ohio, through Andrews University.
Jody is married to Brian Bertness, who has just finished his graduate degree in Mathematics this summer and will be teaching at Mankato State this August. Between the two of them, they have three children (Nick Bertness, Victoria Kapke, and Aaron Kapke) and three beautiful grandchildren (Ava, 3; Marshall, 4; and Claire, 2), with a fourth expected this winter. You may often see Jody and Brian walking their dogs, Milo and Willie, around the campus. Jody's hobbies include photography (senior pictures...hint, hint), floral arranging, crafting, traveling and browsing Pinterest.
